WATER

In the direction of the West we surrender to the elemental power of water in the waning cycle of the moon. After stoking the Fire we surrender to the alchemy that is born by combining these elemental forces. We invite the intention to purify, clear and soften ~ releasing what has been shown to us in the apex of the moon cycle.

Consider how you relate to this element within this season?

Blessings of Ostara

In the wheel of the year we turn to the direction of the East - to Ostara. Oestre is the Germanic goddess of Spring that presides over this time of year. The word Estrogen is derived from her name. The powerful feminine hormone that dictates so much of our specifically female cycle and also plays a big part in our eco system as a whole. At the dawn of the Spring we look to the rising sun in the East - the direction of the Maiden and the fire of Menarche - our first moon blood power. This is the spark of the new lover. This place that ignites sexual drive and passion. Eggs are symbolic of the cosmic egg of life-force and the outer shell we have to break through to be reborn in a tender and new way.

We are into the pilgrimage of Lent from the Old English word “lencten” meaning “lengthening of days” - the transition from Winter to Spring. Lent is 40 days and 40 nights - an exercise in trust, preparation and transition - a time of purification, transformation and spiritual growth. If you are participating in spring cleanses they need to be gentle, slow and self paced - otherwise you will stress your adrenals and in turn your precious nervous system

ENQUIRY

How has the altar of your being been stirred in this first Eclipse?

What is somewhat clear on the reckoning that has presented itself and what is it that needs tending further or more clarity in order to rebirth yourself?

All processes take time and are non linear - despite what we have instilled in us by society - our growth is not a clear upward trajectory but rather a gentle ramble in and out so that we don’t re traumatise ourselves

As the moon takes her out-breath how do you mirror this and what are you releasing?

INCANTATION

“I offer myself a steady and slow opening to the light of life-force”

NATIVE PLANT MEDICINE

Continue to connect with the plant medicine being offered by the earth mother. Can you find Cleavers, Nettle, Dandelion and Chickweed? Or just deepen your understanding of how and where to find them near you. Finding a suitable source that is not near roadsides, dog walking areas, or has been sprayed.

Venture further to see what may be awaiting you. How can you support these to grow and thrive as bountiful medicine - can you object to local spraying or plant some in your garden? Perhaps there is a wild allotment that would support these allies? Remember how potent and alive they are in season as opposed to manufactured and dried

In addition, have you met Wild Garlic (or ‘Ransoms’) yet? Always be careful to inspect the leaves and ensure that no lookalikes are in your grasp. For example Lily of the Valley is extremely toxic. Don’t be deterred, just utilise knowledge and wisdom to stoke curiosity and learn respect for the plant kin and their medicine. Wild garlic leaves will have the tell tale smell of garlic when rubbed or you can wait until they flower to be sure

RECIPES

Wild Garlic Pesto

Combine wild garlic, nettle, olive oil, pine nuts, parmesan and sea salt for a delicious and warming pesto. Alternatively steam the wild garlic like Spinach to take the punch out and eat as your steamed greens.

If you are lucky enough to have a mature Magnolia you can take the blooms before they burst open and pickle them - preferably in Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother and enjoy a hot pickle experience. Otherwise just try them raw - they are unexpectedly feisty for such beautiful blooms!

I hope to see you on our next zoom circle call next Saturday 29th March at 10:30am
